I am not much of a soccer fan but the World Cup is captivating. Not for just the world-class competition and the incredible fan fervor but for the high level of advertising creativity. Beautiful colors and great play on emotional investment make for great ads. The Nike and Adidas commercials make me want to become the biggest soccer fan in the world. And how about going 45 minutes without seeing a commercial? Wow! If you have tried watching the NBA or NFL lately you probably see more ads than sport in the last 10 minutes of a game.
Of course the field is surrounded by rolling banners and the onscreen scoreboard is brought to you by Budweiser but there is no were near the sponsorship saturation of American based pro sports.
